 Stretch marks are something that all of us will suffer with at some point in our lives, be it in the result of pregnancy or weight gain. Stretch marks are lines that occur on the skins surface; they are often red or purple to start with then they gradually fade to a silvery white colour. Stretch marks are the result of the skin suddenly stretching, which causes
the middle layer of skin (dermis) to break is places, which then allows the deeper layers to show through.The most common affected areas are the thighs, bum, tummy and breasts. There is no magic cure to getting rid of stretch marks but there are some things you can do to minimise their appearance and to reduce visibility over time.

1) Stay Hydrated
Our skin loses its elasticity when its dehydrated so making sure that we increase are water intake and
swap coffee for herbal tea can have a big impact as it will help to keep the skin flexible and glowing.

2) Prep and Moisturise
It’s far easier to do as much a possible to prevent stretch marks appearing, so by moisturising and hydrating your skin with creams will help to ensure that your in the best possible condition, which means its less likely to tear and create stretch marks. This is particularly helpful during pregnancy, before you start to get any marks, its important to apply either lightweight oil or nourishing butter to the surface daily, as this will prevent any stretch marks appearing.

3) Supplements & Vitamins
Like most skin conditions, stretch marks can also be tackled from the inside out. Taking fish oil tablets will help to hydrate and protect the skin, but it will also ensure the skin can renew itself more effectively. Vitamin E has also been proven to help the skins condition and renewal so by taking vitamin tablets and applying a body lotion/oil containing Vitamin E will help to improve the appearance of stretch marks over a period of time.

4) Essential Oils
Many generations have advised that essential oils including lavender, geranium and rose can help to soothe stretch marks and reduce their appearance. You have to remember though you should never apply pure essential oil to the skin so by mixing a few drops into your moisturiser is the best way to integrate this into your routine.
