Recently I have heard a few things about the benefits of essential oils, how they can help you overcome pretty much every problem, especially migraines and headaches. Being someone who suffers from intense headaches I am always up to trying anything so I decided to invest in a air diffuser and a couple of essential oils, peppermint being one of them and I can honestly say it has completely changed my life.

I started off by diffusing a couple of drops of peppermint oil while I was settling down to go to bed as it relaxes the body and muscles relieving any tension and headaches before I sleep and occasionally I would dilute two drops of peppermint with a few drops of carrier oil such as coconut oil and message it over my stomach to relieve upset stomach.  Once I realised that this was working for me and I decided to do a bit more research to see how else peppermint oil could benefit me and I come across loads of other really helpful uses.

There are many different benefits to using peppermint oil but I thought I would share my favourites one today as these are the ones I tend to use on a daily basis and really have made a difference to me. Please note that this is just what I have found has helped me and I am in no way a doctor and confirming that these will work for you.

1. Headache Cure - Peppermint oil has the ability to improve circulation, heal the gut and relax tense muscles. All of these conditions can cause tension headaches or migraines making peppermint oil an excellent natural treatment.

2. Allergy Relief – Peppermint oil is highly effective at relaxing muscles in your nasal passages and can help clear out the muck and pollen during allergy season. Diffusing peppermint along with clove oil and eucalyptus oil can also reduce allergy symptoms.

3. Muscle Pain Relief – Peppermint essential oil is a very effective natural painkiller and muscle relaxant. It is especially helpful in soothing an aching back, sore muscles, and melting away a tension headache.

4. Natural Energiser – For a non-toxic alternative to dangerous energy drinks, take a few whiffs of peppermint. It will perk you up on long road trips; in school or any other time you need to “burn the midnight oil.” For those with chronic fatigue syndrome, peppermint oil may improve focus and concentration.

5. Improve Your Shampoo – Add 2-3 drops of peppermint essential oil to your regular morning shampoo and conditioner to stimulate the scalp, energise your mind, and wake up! Because it is a powerful antiseptic, peppermint can also help remove dandruff and lice.

6. Acne Treatment – According to medical studies one of the best peppermint oil uses is facial treatment thanks to anti-microbial properties so is an excellent ingredient to help cure acne naturally.

7. Reduce Hunger Cravings – Inhaling peppermint essential oil can stave off the munchies and can help you feel full faster. If you can’t have a diffuser with you at dinnertime, try applying a couple drops on your temples or chest, or take a couple of deep sniffs from the bottle.

8. Hair Growth - Peppermint oil is used in many high quality hair care products because it can naturally thicken and nourish damaged hair. Simply add some peppermint oil to your current shampoo.

As you can see there are loads of really good reason as to why to use peppermint essential oil and that is not even all of them, they really have helped my changed my life, especially with the headaches.  I cannot honestly think of one reason why anyone would choose not to have peppermint oil in their medicine cabinet.
